Bakfickan, meaning “the back pocket,” offers a relaxed contrast to its grand neighbour, Operakällaren, the Michelin-starred dining room at Stockholm’s Royal Opera House. While Operakällaren calls for formality, Bakfickan welcomes guests to pull up a stool and enjoy classic Swedish comfort food just as generations of Stockholmers have done. The menu celebrates traditional husmanskost, featuring meatballs with lingonberries and cream sauce, gravlax with mustard and dill, herring with crispbread, Jansson’s temptation, and Swedish cheeses. Efficient service, a modestly priced wine list, and an excellent selection of aquavit complete the experience at this charming Stockholm institution.
