Bar Sathorn

Bar

Housed in a grand mansion on North Sathorn Road, Bar Sathorn occupies a building with a fascinating 136-year history that has served as a tycoon’s residence, luxury hotel and Soviet embassy. Today, as part of W Bangkok, it blends heritage architecture with contemporary cocktail craft. Milan-born bartender Marco Dognini leads the programme, drawing on local flavours and historical references to create inventive drinks.

Standouts include the Staro Sbagliato, enhanced with sweet basil wine and caper-lemon sorbet, and a hot reinterpretation of the Bullshot made with tom kha broth, inspired by the building’s Soviet past. The bar’s most talked-about creation is an agave-and-bacon Bloody Mary chilled with a whole frozen tomato instead of ice, while The Pina combines cognac, pickled pineapple and coconut hard seltzer for a lighter take on the piña colada.

Monthly specials celebrate Thai artisans and ingredients, with past themes including cacao, wild honey, pomelo and hilltribe coffee. Many herbs and greens are grown in W Bangkok’s rooftop garden using compost made from the hotel’s food waste. With leather sofas, Corinthian columns and vinyl spinning in the background, Bar Sathorn offers a distinctive Bangkok drinking experience rooted in history yet confidently contemporary.
