Some say Woodman’s in Essex invented the Clam Roll, while Clam Box in Ipswich perfected it. It could be a matter of taste as Woodman’s are smaller, lightly battered delights, while Clam Box offers a heartier, crunchier version. Woodman’s has superior tartare sauce, while Clam Box has the better “wafer-thin” roll. They are 20 minutes from each other, so let the competition continue!
