Jubaoyuan Hot Pot Restaurant on Ox Street is a Beijing institution, revered for its Muslim-style shuan yangrou mutton hot pot. For over 70 years, this traditional Peking hotpot destination has been serving fragrant halal mutton broth, drawing long lines of devoted diners each evening.
While the paper-thin slices of lamb, swished through a steaming copper pot, are the undeniable star, the sesame-studded shaobing deserve equal acclaim. Crisp outside, fluffy within and brushed with rich sesame paste, they may be “just” bread — but resisting a second (or third) is nearly impossible.
