Apple Pan

Fast Food

One of Los Angeles’ oldest restaurants still in operation, this legendary burger joint has a cult-like following and is busy day and night. Just 1.2 miles from the 20th Century Fox studios, celebrities occasionally dine there. Its cottage exterior, U-shaped counter and red leather stools, open kitchen with flat-top griddle and waiters sporting paper hats look much the same as they did when it opened in 1947. The Hickoryburger with Apple Pan’s secret sauce, mayonnaise, pickles and lettuce is equally old school. A well-kept secret, Apple Pan employees must sign a confidentiality agreement not to reveal the restaurant’s recipes. Grilled to order, fans claim the patty is infused with hickory smoke and the sauce is a cross between barbecue sauce and ketchup. The restaurant is just as famous for its apple pie served with Danish vanilla ice cream. Pro tip: You can buy an unbaked apple pie to take home. It comes with printed baking instructions.
