Attica
Ben Shewry’s Attica in suburban Melbourne has been acclaimed as one of the best restaurants in the world. Attica reflects Ben’s upbringing on a coastal farm, where his family harvested organic produce. Attica has a modern ambiance with a degustation that reflects highly technical small dishes that are delicate and flavorsome. A courtyard garden provides herbs for the dishes. Authenticity is demonstrated in such native dishes as Salted Red Kangaroo and Bunya-Bunya, where cured kangaroo is positioned on top of a bunya nut puree. Marron with Sweet and Sour Pumpkin Seeds is another exquisite dish, featuring sweet freshwater crayfish from Western Australia. Along with the crunch of seeds and nuance of house-grown flowers, this lux dish with the head removed for easier eating is a showstopper. A sweet-and-sour dressing adds to its complexity.
