Wikun Panich
Unlike most shops that skimp on the filling and pad with a bready covering, for more than 60 years “Auntie Wikun” has been serving her epic steamed buns in two sizes: large and enormous. So soft and fluffy, they seem like clouds. Then, BAM! The inside is a dizzying array of juicy minced pork, Chinese sausage and salted egg yolk. As an alternative to the sai-kem (savory) fillings, there also are sai-waan (sweet) buns packed with black bean or cream paste. Get there early, as the big ones sell out well before closing time. Wikun is strictly take-away, but fret not. Your buns will be safely incubated in a brown paper bag lined with banana leaves.
